The Bakelite stem has an integral threaded tenon. The bone tenons were common at the time and they would shift resulting in an overturn. The lockmounts are right on every time and forever. They didn't seem to catch on. Maybe because rubber became more popular than Bakelite.
Case logo reads: "Genuine Meerschaum" and shows a bird looking at the rising or setting sun. It has a Bakelite stem and the silver applique to the brass band looks to me like a curling wisp of smoke. Nice little pipe!
