Erik Nording's Hunter Blend

Since McClelland's suspended operations, I am looking for a substitute for their Hunter Blend Retriever pipe tobacco. I was able to snag up about 10 tins of it before the stock was exhausted and no longer available. Has anyone found a similar mixture which might be a good substitute? Thank you.

Au Sable Bob, I'm afraid that I don't have a substitute that comes to mind, but I have to mention that I love your Tom Crean avatar. The most unsung hero of the Shackleton expeditions, and a great explorer. I have a framed picture of him with the puppies that Frank Hurley took during the Endurance Trans-Antarctic expedition on my wall. Great choice!

Thank you icerunoff. I like your avatar of Joshua Chamberlain as well. Chamberlain was a wonderful example of courage, calmness, and leadership under fire. A few years back, my wife and I vacationed in Ireland. We passed through Anascaul where Tom Crean operated The South Pole Inn. The more I learned about him, the more interested I became. If you have not already read his biography, you may find the book 'An Unsung Hero - Tom Crean - Antarctic Survivor' by Michael Smith as enjoyable and informative a read as I have. A remarkable man indeed!

As a matter of fact, I have that book on my bookshelf, hence my "unsung hero" quip. I also have "Tom Crean, An Illustrated Life" with most of the surviving photographs of him. I even bought a children's book, "Tom Crean's Rabbit", for my kids.

Chamberlain is a hero of mine, and I named my son after my 4x great uncle who served under Chamberlain, and died on Little Round Top. Sorry to turn your blend substitute thread into a history narrative, but both of those guys were awesome! Best luck with the blend search!

Well, sir I went over to Tobacco Reviews to confirm my memory of this blend. I remember a Carmel aromatic that was reminiscent of Molto Dolce but not as flavored and very good . I wanted to make sure my memory wasn't off before I posted this.
I found out that there were several blends in a Nording Hunter series. The names of each blend in the series is a breed of sporting dogs.
Retriever, Labrador, and Pointer are all aromatics, and I'm not now sure which one I had.
Fox Hound is fittingly an English blend
Beagle was a VA/Per.

I think I had the English and one of the aros but I didn't keep track of which ones they were.

I was a devotee of Nording's hunter blends, and it was easily available at a local shop. When the shop owner told me the Nording's was no longer available, I tried a couple of other blends in the shop... and found zero satisfaction. So I researched Nording's blend, and read that it was composed of "wonderful bright Virginias mixed with mellow Burleys and rounded out by soft, sweet black Cavendish. Black Cavendish, Burley, Virginia." So I researched pipe tobaccos comprised of similar leaf. I tried a few then settled on 4th Generation Morning Blend Pipe Tobacco, which is available at www.tobaccopipes.com. It has a great nose, tastes good and mellow, and doesn't leave a lot of gunk in my pipe. In every aspect, it reminds me of the Nording Hunter blends... minus the cool hunting breed names.

While Chamberlain, to me, was on the opposing side, I certainly admire how he treated the Confederate troops at the surrender. If people only had that same goodwill in todays world toward those men.

I actually think the Country Squire’s Choctaw might be in the same ballpark:
