All three have their uses, but they are very different things.

You can write something on someone else's profile (unless they have their privacy settings set to disallow this) but these posts are not private. Anyone viewing that user's profile can see your post. Please don't include information like your address in a profile post. It also may not be the best way to get someone's attention (they may have alerts for new profile posts turned off).

Private messages are private. Only users you include or invite into the conversation can see them. Most users probably have alerts for new PMs turned on, so this can get attention more quickly.

All of the staff can see reports, and we get alerts for new reports. Examples of things you can report include threads or posts you think should be moved or merged, or offensive content. If something offends you, please don't quote the offensive post and complain in the thread; use the Report button instead.

Finally, if you have a question about the site, please post it in the Site Questions forum. Please don't use Profile posts, PMs, or Reports for site questions.

Bumping this so more people might see it.

Please remember that profile posts are not private! Anyone can see them.

I have noticed people still using profile posts to communicate with other members, and even including private information like physical mail and email addresses. Please use private messages instead (called "conversations" in the forum software).
